Since 20 July, DOT price action undertook a bullish trajectory as the price bounced in an uptrend. However, the altcoin saw a 3.6% decline in 24 hours as the key near-term technicals preferred the sellers. As a result, the price bounced back between the trendlines following the trend. At press time, DOT traded at $51.1, slightly below its 20-SMA (white).

The RSI was southbound after it plunged from the overbought territory toward the half-line over the last day. Moreover, MACD histogram and the AO flashed red signals and indicated decreasing buying power. 

Polkadot Parachain Auctions are Live!

Close to four years after Polkadot’s first commit, the network’s first parachain slot auction is underway. It’s taken an enormous feat of engineering to get to this final phase of Polkadot’s roadmap. Polkadot is on track to launch several parachains in 2021, realizing, at last, the full potential of the scalable multi-chain architecture that began development in 2017. 

As per the auction timetable, Polkadot’s first slot auction began on November 11th, 2021 with bidding set to end on November 18th, 2021. The first batch includes five auctions, and the five parachain slot winners will onboard to the network on December 18th, 2021. A second batch of six auctions will begin on December 23rd, with auctions taking place every two weeks. Polkadot’s First Parachain

With the passing of Referendum 41, Polkadot's first parachain, Statemint began onboarding to Polkadot as a shell parachain. A shell parachain has extremely limited functionality — it only accepts messages from the Relay Chain to upgrade itself to something else. Right now it serves to ensure block production, inclusion, and finalization on the network. As part of this multi-phase launch process, Polkadot governance will need to vote to upgrade the shell parachain to add Statemine’s core functionality.

Currently, crowdloan contributors that leave less than the minimum existential deposit amount in their account after contributing to a crowdloan will have their remaining balance wiped from the account. DOT had a very disappointing month so far with a 25% loss in price compared to seven days ago. This bearish trend started on November 4th when DOT made a new all-time high at $55. Since then, the cryptocurrency was unable to stop the downtrend and all support levels were broken.

The current support level at $26 may provide hope of a reversal. However, the price action remains bearish and this was exacerbated by the December 4th crash. If the RSI can make a higher low as the price goes lower, then that may be the first signal that this downtrend is approaching the end.

At the time of this post, DOT looks very weak and the indicators are all bearish, including volume which has remained high as the price fell. This is not good for bulls, but the current support at $26 has much more confidence than previous levels due to the past price action where DOT found support her several times.

Celebrating Polkadot’s First Month of Live Parachains & Dapps

After launching live parachains last month, the final stage of Polkadot’s launch, several parachains have completed their own launch roadmaps and an ecosystem of dapps and services is now exploding on top of Polkadot’s layer-1 chains, with millions of transactions already processed. No wonder Polkadot was recently named the fastest-growing ecosystem of any Web3 protocol at a similar stage of launch and the biggest ecosystem outside of Ethereum in the 2021 Developer Report by Electric Capital.

Polkadot’s Unstoppable Year

This ‘coming of age’ moment for Polkadot follows an unstoppable year of development and major technical milestones in 2021. If you missed Polkadot founder Gavin Wood’s annual roundup blog summarizing Polkadot’s accomplishments in 2021, get it here.

From rolling out light clients for its tech stack to the first on-chain branding project, launching  Polkadot Gifts and version 2 of XCM, Polkadot’s cross-consensus messaging format, it was Polkadot’s biggest year yet. By the end of the year, Polkadot had completed over 540 forkless upgrades, most of which through decentralized governance, and the on-chain treasury had handed out nearly 200,000 DOT to projects that benefit the network.

These technological upgrades and breakthroughs have bumped Polkadot’s code base up to more than 2 million lines spread across implementations, tools, UIs, and features. Last year ended with over 20,000 nominators, roughly 10,000 developers in the technical chats, 31 live Substrate mainnets, 6,000 validators, and 2,391 Polkadot ambassadors and candidates. With all this momentum, 2022 is sure to be the year of Polkadot!
